The East Sea may face between 11 and 13 storms this year, including 5-7 that could directly affect Vietnam.

The information was given on May 10, at a national meeting on natural disaster prevention, control, and rescue chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang.

According to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, natural disasters have left 14 people dead and missing in Vietnam and caused total losses of VND399 billion (USD16.31 million) since the beginning of this year.

The East Sea is expected to experience 11-13 storms this year, with 5-7 predicted to ravage Vietnam. Most of the storms will occur from September to November.

In the first four months of this year, Vietnam experienced a significant rise in average temperature, ranging from 0.5-15 degrees centigrade compared to previous years. This trend was particularly alarming in April, when the temperature in the northern and northern central region surged by 3.1-3.6 degrees centigrade. These changes underscore the urgent need for climate change adaptation measures.

Saline intrusion in southern localities during this year's dry season occurred earlier than usual.

The hot weather would be more intense in the northern and central regions between June and August and decline in September.
