Responding to reporters’ queries on Vietnam’s response to the event on January 7, the spokesman asserted that Vietnam supports de-nuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula as well as a comprehensive nuclear test ban and non-proliferation towards disarmament of this type of weapon.

“The DPRK’s action was a clear violation of the UN Security Council’s resolutions, increasing tensions and threatening peace and stability in the region,” he affirmed.

Vietnam calls on concerned parties to take practical measures to foster peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, Binh said.

According to local media, the first hydrogen bomb test was successfully conducted in the country at 10 am on January 6. Previous nuclear tests occurred in 2006, 2009 and 2013.
