Vietnam’s 43rd Covid-19 death of a 50-year-old man with serious underlying medical conditions was confirmed on Monday morning.
According to a report from the Ministry of Health, the man had cirrhosis. In April, he faced high fever, shivers and digestive problems and was taken to Hai Duong Provincial General Hospital for treatment. At the hospital, he was found with the multi-drug resistant Ochrobactrum anthropi bacteria.
He was moved to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on April 25 where he was diagnosed with cirrhosis and blood sepsis.
On May 5, he tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.
He was provided with intensive treatment methods, including blood transfusion and ventilator use, but his condition continued worsening.
A national consultation was held on his case on May 21 but his condition was too critical to be dealt with.
The patient died on Sunday midnight due to Covid-19 and other diseases, including septic shock, multiple organ failure and blood sepsis, the ministry concluded.
