Vietnam repatriates remains of 28 soldiers from Laos

The remains of 28 Vietnamese soldiers and experts who died in Laos have been repatriated to Vietnam and will be buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Quang Tri Province on May 23.

On May 20, authorities in Quang Tri Province, together with officials from the Lao provinces of Savannakhet and Khammouane, held a handover and reception ceremony at the Lao Bao International Border Gate.

The remains were recovered by the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command during the 2025-2026 dry season search mission in Savannakhet and Khammouane provinces.

Following the ceremony, the remains were transferred to the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Dong Ha Ward, Quang Tri Province, where biological samples will be collected to support identification procedures in accordance with regulations.

According to the plan, memorial, funeral and burial ceremonies for the fallen soldiers will take place on the morning of May 23 at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery.
