Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has ratified two international protocols as measures to prevent and fight organised crime across national borders more effectively.
Steps include the convention against trans-national organised crime (TOC) and a protocol to prevent, suppress and punish human trafficking, especially women and children.
Ratification was also aimed at the implementation of a national action plan on fighting and prevention money laundering and terrorism financing from February this year until the end of 2012.
In the long run, the ratification will create a legal framework for protecting national interests and Vietnamese citizens, creating an opportunity to access and receive lawful and technical support from other countries in crime.
Based on the PM's ratification, Vietnam will also enhance and fulfil its co-operation policy with other countries to better combat trans-national organised crime.
Vietnam signed the TOC Convention together with 124 other member countries in December 2000 in Palermo, Italy. The convention was subsequently ratified by 163 countries and organisations.
The protocol on human trafficking first took effect on December 25, 2003 with the support of 147 members.
