In his speech given at the 52nd World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting held in Geneva on May 23, Deputy PM Le Minh Khai emphasized that the "dual" impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions are causing unprecedented synergistic effects on supply prices and the global food supply chain, while makes important proposals.

He called for international cooperation in strengthening the resilience and adaptability to climate change for the Mekong Delta, contributing to national and regional food security.

The Vice President of Tanzania, director of the World Food Program and President of Syngenta Group shared the assessments and recommendations of the Vietnamese delegation, and emphasized that inflation, supply chain disruptions, and climate change, environmental degradation and rampant urbanization are seriously affecting global food security.

Delegates also underlined the need to enhance public-private partnership to address food shortages and promote sustainable and inclusive global food systems.

On May 23, there were also many discussions on important issues such as the future health system, the future of globalization, the future of global trade, the prospect of global cyber security, and the future of global trade towards net zero emissions, the role of carbon dioxide reduction technology, overcoming the energy crisis, building and revitalizing tourism.

On the sidelines of the event, Deputy PM Khai had a meeting with Patrick Leahy, president pro tempore of the US Senate, during which both sides expressed their delight at the strong development across a variety of fields in Vietnam-US relations.

Khai showed his sincere thanks to Patrick Leahy and many US lawmakers for their special sentiment towards Vietnam and their support for the development of bilateral relations, especially in cooperation in dealing with the consequences of war.

The same day, Deputy PM Khai held a host of working sessions with leaders of a number of major groups on green finance attraction, and had a series of meetings with many business leaders of Wonderloop, Horasis, Menzies Aviation, dHealth Foundation, NAS, Citibank, HSBC, and ToGo.

Representatives from corporations and financial investment funds highly appreciated Vietnam's determination and efforts to transform the economy towards green and sustainable growth.

They affirmed their desire to accompany and cooperate with Vietnam in the fields of green finance, energy transformation, green growth, high technology, innovation, and human resource development...

Khai reiterated the nation’s determination to pursue a green growth roadmap, attracting green financial resources towards the country's sustainable development.

At the meeting, Philipp Rösler, former Vice-Chancellor and chairman of Consessor AG told foreign investors, Vietnam is one of the most attractive investment destinations in the region with the advantages in terms of geographical location, young population and highly open economy.

Phillip Roesler also applauded Vietnam's development strategy and orientation, affirming his readiness to continue calling for foreign investors, connecting financial institutions and banks to provide green financial programs for Vietnam in the near

Meeting with GoTo Group's CEO, Andre Soelistyo, Khai was appreciative the Group's business results in technology solutions for transport and tourism in Vietnam and its contributions to Vietnam's recent COVID-19 containment efforts.

The Deputy PM encouraged GoTo Group to increase investment in the fields of technology, services, information technology and digital transformation in trade and investment promotion activities, and affirmed that it would facilitate the Group’s investment in the Southeast Asian nationon the basis of Vietnamese and international laws.

The GoTo Group CEO said that in the coming time, the Group will continue to expand its business activities and contribute to the rapid digital transformation in Vietnam.

During an earlier meeting with Amanda Murphy, Amanda Murphy, head of commercial banking of HSBC for South and Southeast Asia, Khai applauded HSBC's active and effective contribution to developing finance-credit sector in Vietnam, while simultaneously affirming the Government's priority given to developing green and sustainable finance, especially promoting the development of the green bond market.

Amanda Murphy said HSBC is interested and ready to work hand in hand with the Vietnamese Government in the process of implementing green energy transformation, thereby contributing to sustainable development goals.

She is set to visit Vietnam soon to hold detail discussion with relevant ministries and sectors in a bid accelerate the implementation of specific programs and projects in the time ahead.
