The first dialogue on the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership was held on Thursday in Hanoi between Deputy FM Ho Xuan Son and his Japanese counterpart Koro Bessho.

The first dialogue on the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership was held on Thursday in Hanoi between Deputy FM Ho Xuan Son and his Japanese counterpart Koro Bessho.

Deputy PM, FM Pham Gia Khiem (L) welcomes Japanese Deputy FM Koro Bessho (R), Hanoi, December 9, 2010.

In a frank and friendly atmosphere, the two sides exchanged views on the strategic partnership, diplomatic-security-national defense policies of the two countries, and regional and international issues of common concern.

They agreed on strengthening cooperation and coordination on regional and international forums in the current context of quick global changes.

The dialogue is a vivid evidence of mutual confidence between the two countries, said Deputy PM, FM Pham Gia Khiem at the reception to Mr. Koro Bessho later on the same day.

The positive results of the dialogue would enhance the all-around bilateral ties and peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world, Deputy PM Khiem continued.

Vietnam and Japan issued a Joint Statement on strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia on the occasion of PM Naoto Kan’s visit to the Southeast Asian country in last October.

The statement lays a legal framework for future development of the bilateral ties, noted Deputy PM Khiem.

Japan hopes to expand the strategic partnership with Vietnam, stressed Deputy FM Koro Bessho, saying that Vietnam is among Japan’s first ODA prioritized receivers.

The next round of dialogue will take place in Tokyo, Japan in 2011.
