According to a new resolution, Vietnam will exempt visas for citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
Citizens of these countries will be allowed a visa-free stay of up to 45 days from entry, regardless of passport type or entry purpose, provided they meet all entry conditions stipulated by Vietnamese law.
The visa exemption policy for citizens of the 12 listed countries will be implemented from March 15, 2025, until March 14, 2028, and will be subject to renewal by Vietnamese legal regulations.
This policy was also a key directive emphasized by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh while chairing the government’s regular meeting for February on March 5.
The prime minister has assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to study appropriate visa policies, particularly for traditional partner countries.
He has also instructed relevant agencies to explore the diversification of visa exemptions for certain countries and specific groups, such as global billionaires.
In mid-January, the government also issued a resolution granting visa exemptions for the citizens of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.
Vietnam’s tourism industry is estimated to welcome 17.5 million international visitors in 2024, a 38.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023. Domestic tourism is projected to reach 110 million trips, a 1.6 percent increase from the previous year.
