Vietnam ships 340,000 African swine fever vaccine doses to the Philippines on September 8.
The Philippines first authorised the controlled use of Vietnam’s African swine fever (ASF) vaccine in July 2024. Following the initial purchase of 160,000 doses, authorities reported positive results after one year of use.
According to Juancho Robles, CEO of KPP Power Comoditis, which directly imports the vaccine under government supervision, trials conducted by the Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) showed AVAC ASF LIVE achieved an efficacy rate of 92.78 percent in generating antibodies. Vaccinated pigs were generally healthier and outbreaks significantly reduced.
The second shipment will be allocated by DA-BAI for government-led vaccination campaigns, prioritising registered volunteer farms. The batch is expected to arrive in the Philippines on September 9 for distribution and use.
The export marks another milestone for Vietnam’s animal health industry, enhancing AVAC’s credibility abroad and paving the way for entry into other international markets.
Domestically, more than 4 million doses of AVAC ASF LIVE have been supplied, with nearly 1 million administered under strict monitoring. Results consistently demonstrate safety and effectiveness, with major livestock enterprises in Vietnam using the vaccine for over three years with positive outcomes.
