Vietnam confirms 2,175 fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday

The number of new Covid-19 infections continued to drop with 2,175 cases recorded on Monday, down 93 cases from the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 48 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (601), Quang Ninh (116), Phu Tho (113), Tuyen Quang (107), and Nghe An (103).

As of Monday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to over 10.67 million. The country now stands 12th among 227 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,592,032), HCM City (608,759), Nghe An (482,736), Bac Giang (385,845), and Binh Duong (383,520).

On May 9, an additional 1,574 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 9.32 million.

On Monday evening, one death related to Covid-19 was announced in Bac Ninh Province, raising the number of fatalities in Vietnam to 43,057.

Vietnam on May 8 administered 584,472 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to nearly 216 million.
