Vietnam aviation handles 1.68 mln passengers over holiday period

Vietnam’s aviation market saw 1.68 million passengers during the Hung Kings Commemoration and Reunification Day-May Day holiday period, up 2.2 per cent from a year earlier.

The figures cover the holiday travel periods of April 25-27 and April 30-May 3.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said, domestic air traffic totalled 675,140 passengers and 3,400 tonnes of cargo, down 7.5 per cent and 11.6 per cent respectively from the same period last year.

International traffic exceeded 1 million passengers and 24,050 tonnes of cargo, rising 10 per cent and 10.6 per cent.

Vietnamese carriers transported 1.03 million passengers and 7,900 tonnes of cargo overall, with passenger traffic down 7.3 per cent year-on-year and cargo volumes up 3.5 per cent.

International services operated by Vietnamese airlines carried 356,710 passengers and 4,490 tonnes of cargo, with passenger numbers down 6.8 per cent but cargo volumes rising 19.1 per cent.

As of May 2, Vietnamese airlines had operated 4,748 departing flights during the holiday period.

Of those, 4,062 flights departed on time, giving the sector an average on-time performance rate of 85.6 per cent, while 56 flights were cancelled.

CAAV Director General Uong Viet Dung said holiday aviation operations remained safe and stable, with service quality maintained and on-time performance above 80 per cent throughout the break.

He said aviation authorities and operators maintained full staffing, security and safety monitoring during the holiday to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations.

Authorities said any issues arising at airports were handled in accordance with regulations, with no incidents affecting operational safety or security.
