According to the Ministry of Health, of the figure, HCM City accounted for 1,715; followed by Binh Duong (406), Long An (179), Dong Nai (159), Tay Ninh (139), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (52), Dak Lak (37), Vinh Long (31), Khanh Hoa (18), Kien Giang (18), Phu Yen (15), Dong Thap (15), An Giang (10), Hau Giang (8 ), Can Tho (6), Nghe An (4), Binh Dinh (3), Bac Lieu (2), Dak Nong (2), Lang Son (1) and Hanoi (1).
There were 587 cases found outside quarantined or sealed-off areas.
As of 6 am on Thursday, Vietnam had 123,640 Covid-19 patients, including 121,433 local infections. The number of locally-transmitted infections since the fourth wave of outbreaks hit the country on April 27 amounted to 119,863, including 24,683 discharged from hospital.
Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Quang Ninh, Bac Kan and Nam Dinh have gone 14 days without witnessing new cases.
Around 5.3 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been administered with 496,630 people fully given two shots.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health’s special taskforce on supporting southeastern localities’ Covid-19 fight led by Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan inspected the treatment of Covid-19 patients in worsening conditions at Thong Nhat Hospital in HCM City and Dong Nai General Hospital.
HCM City has set up four more Covid-19 field hospitals with a total of 10,400 sick-beds. Currently, the city’s 37 hospitals are providing Covid-19 treatment with 55,000 sick-beds in total.
Also on Wednesday, the city’s 3,000-bed 16th field hospital was put into operation.
Meanwhile, the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has also established nine more Covid-19 field hospitals with 1,790 sick-beds in total.
