From May 16, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will conduct four weekly flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on the same route; while Bamboo Airways is scheduled to offer one daily flight from June 1.
Vietnam Airlines will also resume one more domestic route linking Van Don with the central city of Danang from May 16 with the frequency of three weekly Vietnam Airlines flights slated for Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Van Don International Airport is working on a plan to open another domestic route linking Van Don and Phu Quoc or Nha Trang in fourth quarter of this year.
The airport also planned to launch international routes, using chartered flights with the focus on Chinese and South Korean destinations. These routes are expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of this year when the Covid-19 pandemic is brought under control in these two countries.
According to Pham Ngoc Sau, director of Van Don International Airport, despite the eased social distancing measures, the airport has maintained Covid-19 preventive measures. Passengers are required to wear a face mask, use hand wash and have temperature checks. Speakers are used to instruct them to comply with the safety regulations.
Sau added that the airport has reduced 50% of ground service fees for international flights and 70% for domestic flights. This incentive will be applied until the end of 2020.
