US Science Envoy visits Vietnam

US Science Envoy Dr. Geraldine L. Richmond arrived in Vietnam on January 12, starting her 10-day visit with the aim of supporting US President Obama’s initiative to strengthen the US science and education relationships overseas.

US Science Envoy Dr. Geraldine L. Richmond arrived in Vietnam on January 12, starting her 10-day visit with the aim of supporting US President Obama’s initiative to strengthen the US science and education relationships overseas.

During her stay, Dr. Richmond will meet with Vietnamese scientists, scholars and businesspeople to discuss measures to boost research cooperation between the two countries.

She is scheduled to visit and work with research institutes and universities in Hanoi, Hue, Danang, Ho Chi Minh and Can Tho cities.

Dr. Richmond said her first visit to Vietnam will help her gain a better knowledge and insights about Vietnam’s science and education. As other Science Envoys, she will share these knowledge and insights with the U.S. scientific community upon her return.  Basing on the knowledge the US Government will develop proper plans to support and consolidate partnership relations between the two countries in the fields of research and new technology.

The US Science Envoy Program is a core element of the Administration’s commitment to global engagement in science and technology. President Obama announced the program in Cairo in June 2009. Since the program’s inception, Science Envoys have visited 25 countries.
