The entry section at District 2 in Ho Chi Minh City was connected with the first underwater section of Thu Thiem underwater tunnel on March 9.
Le Hoang Quan, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, conducted the tunnel connecting rite at the site on the morning of March 10.
As part of the ceremony, Quan praised the working efforts and enthusiasm of relevant agencies who took part in transporting and successfully installing the first section of the underwater tunnel. The success paves the way for the following sections.
After being connected, there is remaining work to be done to complete the first section that will last until the end of March. The final section is expected to be dropped on June 5th, 2010. The project aims to complete the last connection with an entry section at the bank of District 1 at the end of August, 2010.
The underwater tunnel will go into trial operation in February 2011.
