According to Pham Nguyen Binh, Chairman of Son Luong Commune People’s Committee, the incident occurred at 6.20 pm on September 19 outside Nam Muoi Semi-boarding Secondary School for Ethnic Minority Students.
The brothers, who attended another school but lived near the site, had been swinging on the iron gate when one of the pillars suddenly fell. One child died instantly, while the other was taken to hospital but did not survive.
“The incident happened outside school hours. The children were not students of this school, but they lived nearby and went there to play,” Binh said.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse.
