The 2018 Tree-Planting Festival is launched in Bac Ninh Province on February 25

The tree-planting festival in Bac Ninh Province was launched by Vietnam Farmers' Union, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the authorities of Bac Ninh Province. The launching ceremony was held at 8 am, February 25, at the imperial tomb and temple of Kinh Duong Vuong in Thuan Thanh District. Meanwhile, the tree-planting event in Quang Ninh was launched by HCM City Youth Union on the same day.

The programme was sponsored by Xu Doai May Trang Investment JSC.

Politburo member and head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Inspection Commission Tran Quoc Vuong, Party Central Committee member and Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thanh Man, member of the Party Central Committee and head of Vietnam Farmers' Union Thao Xuan Sung, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha and Bac Ninh Province's Party Secretary Nguyen Nhan Chien attended the ceremony.

Representatives of the provincial people's committee, people's union, local agencies, office branches of Vietnam Farmers' Union and departments of natural resources and environment in 14 neighbouring provinces and cities as well as over 1,500 farmers also joined the ceremony.

The ministry encouraged everyone to plant at least one tree and called on farmers in Bac Ninh Province to join together to plant 60,000 trees. Tran Quoc Vuong also called on state officials and the public to join the festival to make Vietnam greener.

He said, "We have to plant many trees to increase the green coverage and protect the environment. Trees bring great economic and social benefits. The party leaders, the government, leaders of state agencies as well as the people of Bac Ninh will join the festival."

The representative of Xu Doai May Trang Investment JSC said they were proud to be the event's sponsor. The company's name was taken from Nguyen Son Dong's novel with the same name. In the novel, Dong tells a tale about farmers' patriotism and the national-building process. The farmers were proud of their jobs and the sacrifice of their ancestors during the war for independence.

Chairwoman of Xu Doai May Trang Investment JSC Nguyen Thi Kim Duc said, "Via the event, we want to spread the desire to improve the environment, prevent natural disasters and greenhouse effect. We also want to popularise the novel to promote the cultural values of the area to the west of Hanoi."

The company gave 1,000 copies of the novel to the people in Thach That District, Hanoi. At the ceremony, it gave way another 1,000 copies to the people in Bac Ninh and Quang Ninh provinces. Xu Doai May Trang Investment JSC also gave 20 gifts that worth over VND3m each to disadvantaged families in Bac Ninh's Thuan Thanh District.

On the same day, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee's Organisation Commission, Pham Minh Chinh, attended the launching ceremony in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province with the themes of Youth Building the Country and Everlasting Gratitude Uncle Ho.

Chinh urged youth unions to promote traditional values and nationalism to young people. "The history of Communist Party of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union should be taught," he said.

After the ceremony, the members of youth union in Quang Ninh Province planted five hectares of Australian pine trees, donated blood, participated in the creative contest for a green Vietnam, clean the beach, released fish and remove illegal advertisements on the walls and roads.
