

On National Highway 13 heading into the city centre, vehicles were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, forcing many motorbike riders to mount sidewalks in an attempt to escape the gridlock.

Some others tried to weave into car lanes but were unable to move forward amid the dense traffic flow.

At the Binh Loi Bridge roundabout, congestion worsened as vehicles struggled to pass.

Nguyen Van Bao, a 30-year-old resident of Hiep Binh Ward, said he had to call his office due to the traffic.

The situation was exacerbated as schools reopened after the summer break on September 3, further increasing traffic volumes and overwhelming city roads.

Long lines of cars stretched across Binh Loi Bridge and nearby streets in Hiep Binh Ward.

Traffic police were deployed to regulate flow and guide motorists at congested points, particularly at the Binh Loi Bridge roundabout.

According to the Traffic Police Department, from August 30 to September 2, 204 accidents occurred across the country, leaving 116 people dead and 128 injured. Compared with last year’s National Day holiday, the figures marked decreases of 29.17 per cent in accidents, 25.16 per cent in fatalities, and 37.25 per cent in injuries.
During the four-day break, traffic police nationwide handled more than 38,000 violations, revoked nearly 1,200 driving licences and professional certificates, deducted points from over 4,400 licences, and temporarily seized 180 cars and more than 8,800 motorbikes.
