The Reunification and May Day holiday saw 55 traffic accidents that left 33 dead and 53 injured.
The holiday period will run from April 30 to May 3 due to the dates falling over the weekend.

According to the National Committee on Traffic Safety, these figures represent a sharp fall compared to the same holiday period last year that recorded 58 traffic accidents, 46 deaths and 71 injuries.
During the first two days, the committee's hotlines received 60 calls and messages about traffic problems such as traffic congestion on some routes no HCM City, passengers crammed onto coaches and unfair pricing for travel tickets.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Chairman of the National Committee on Traffic Safety, has requested the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Transport to co-operate with localities to ensure traffic order for the remainder of the holiday.
Under the Deputy PM's instruction, traffic violations, particularly drunk driving and speeding will be strictly dealt with.
Toll booths have also been informed to halt the collection of road fees if traffic backs up more than one kilometre.
