Vietnam’s No.1 badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh was surprisingly disqualified from the first round of the 2013 Badminton Asia Championships in Taipei (China) on April 17. He was defeated 0-2 by Chinese rival Chan Yan Kit from Hong Kong in his first match of the men’s individual event.
Minh’s fellow Do Duc Tuan also lost 0-2 to another Chinese rival named Lindan.
In the meanwhile, two Vietnamese players, Pham Cao Cuong and Nguyen Hoang Nam, won two tickets for the second round in the men’s individual event.
The 2013 Badminton Asia Championships will last until April 21 with total prizes worth US$200,000.
It has drawn athletes from 24 countries and territories, including 87 men and 58 women for individual events, 50 pairs for men’s doubles, 36 for women’s doubles and 48 for mixed doubles events.
