The final segments of Thu Thiem 2 Bridge spanning the Saigon River were joined on September 2
Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment Company, the project's investor, confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the project has so far completed all 17 segments which met the deadline set by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
"Thu Thiem 2 is one of six key projects that have been given priority by the committee to continue construction work despite challenges posed by the on-going Covid-19 outbreak," the company said. "All engineers and workers have moved to stay at the construction site to speed up the construction work and meet the deadline."
The bridge connecting District 1 with Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Thu Duc City spans 1.4 kilometres and comprises six lanes.
Construction for the project started in 2015 with an investment of nearly VND3.1 trillion (USD135 million). The project failed to meet two deadlines set for 2018 and 2020 due to land acquisition difficulties in District 1.
The bridge is expected to open to traffic next year.
