Speaking to the media, Le Duc Tam, chairman of Ninh Duong Ward People's Committee in Mong Cai City, said that the fire broke out at 7 pm on a boat which was anchored at Phuong Oanh Wharf.
Some people saw the fire and called the local fire and rescue department. Mong Cai City Fire Prevention and Fighting Department sent a team of over 30 members and three engines to the site.
However, the fire quickly spread in strong wind to two other boats anchored nearby. People who witnessed the fire heard some loud explosions and all three boats rapidly caught fire and were destroyed.
No one was hurt in the fire.
Initial investigation showed that the fire might have been caused by a short-circuit.
Police are further investigating the case.
