A whale weighing nearly three tonnes and is 8 metres in length, has been saved in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Hundreds of people jointly rescued the whale
At 19:30 on September 3, Nguyen Van Nam, a fisherman on Co To Island detected the whale getting stuck on Nam Hai Beach. He then called some local people for help and local authorities also sent two excavators to the site to further help the situation.
According to some residents, the whale was stranded on the beach at the time when the flood tide quickly ebbs. The rescue effort faced further difficulties because it was raining. The excavators opened a canal for the whale to return the ocean.
After the two-hour rescue the whale got back to the sea safely.
Some people who have lived on Co To Island for many years said local residents have saved many animals such as dolphins and turtles but this is the first time they have ever seen a whale get stuck on their beach.
