The release took place at Cua Viet Beach and was jointly organised by the Con Co Marine Reserve Management Board, the Cua Viet Border Guard Station and local fishermen.

The green turtles, each weighing about 1.5 kilogrammes and measuring roughly 25 centimetres in shell length, were found entangled in fishing nets off Con Co Island on May 16 by fisherman Bui Dinh Thuy while he was fishing in the area.
Recognising the importance of protecting the rare species, Thuy carefully removed the turtles from the nets, brought them ashore safely and handed them over to the authorities.
After health checks, all three turtles were released into their natural habitat in the presence of officials, local residents and tourists.
Green turtles are classified as endangered and are listed in the Vietnam Red Book, the IUCN Red List and Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
