Three earthquakes measuring up to 3.8 magnitude struck Quang Ngai Province within two hours on March 17, with no damage reported but tremors clearly felt by residents.

Quang Ngai Province experienced three earthquakes within a two-hour period on the afternoon of March 17, with magnitudes ranging from 3.0 to 3.8.

The first earthquake struck at 12.12 pm in Mang But Commune, registering a magnitude of 3.8 at a depth of about 8.1 kilometres.

At 12.51 pm, a second tremor measuring 3.0 magnitude was recorded in Kon Plong Commune, with a depth of approximately 8.2 kilometres. Nearly an hour later, another 3.0-magnitude earthquake occurred again in Mang But Commune.

Since 2021, the area of the former Kon Plong District, previously part of Kon Tum Province and now under Quang Ngai, has recorded hundreds of induced earthquakes. The strongest, measuring 5.0 magnitude, occurred on July 28, 2024.

A representative of the Mang But Commune People’s Committee said no damage to people or property had been reported, although residents clearly felt the tremors.

Local authorities said officials have been assigned to closely monitor the situation and step up public awareness efforts, guiding residents on how to respond to earthquakes.

The commune has also called on specialised agencies to organise additional training sessions to ensure residents remain vigilant and do not underestimate seismic risks.
