Airlines have announced plans to add thousands of flights as travel demand has bounced back ahead of the Hung Kings Temple Festival, Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1) holidays.

Speaking with Dantri/Dtinews, a representative of the Vietnam Airlines Group said that they would add 4,000 flights with nearly 750,000 seats on domestic and international routes during the two holidays.

"During the Hung Kings Temple Festival 2022 between April 8-12, Vietnam Airlines and VASCO will operate nearly 1,400 flights with over 266,000 seats, which is an increase of 10 percent compared to the Hung Kings Temple Festival 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic occurred," the representative said.

Pacific Airlines said they would also conduct nearly 200 flights with nearly 37,000 seats on this occasion.

On the Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1) holiday, Vietnam Airlines Group will arrange 450,000 seats between April 28 and May 4, which is also an increase of 10 percent from the same period of 2019.

Some domestic routes seeing the highest number of passengers are those from Hanoi and HCM City to famous tourist destinations including Danang, Quy Nhon, Dalat, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Con Dao.

Airfares sharply increase

The prices of airfares for these holidays are twice to five times more expensive than they were some days ago.

Flights from Hanoi and HCMC to some popular destinations of Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Da Lat and Con Dao have the most expensive tickets. A return ticket on the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route operated by Vietnam Airlines is selling at a price of more than VND 9 million (USD394) between April 29 and May 3, followed by Bamboo Airways and Vietjet Air with prices of over VND 7 million (USD306). A return flight ticket on the Hanoi-Danang route costs from VND3.6 million (USD158) to VND5 million (USD219).
