Train tickets on many routes have sold out for the coming Tet Lunar New Year 2024 festival, despite the holiday being two months away.
According to the Saigon Railway Transport JS Company, by November 29, around 110,000 tickets on the North-South railway route were available.
Most of the routes from HCM City to Dong Nai to the central provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Quang Ngai, on February 2-7 have sold out.
Meanwhile, many tickets from HCM City to Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh and Hanoi have not yet been sold.
Thai Van Truyen, General Director of the Saigon Railway Transport JS Company, said his firm would focus on operating short routes to the central region based on increasing demand.
Tet train ticket prices have increased by 1-4 percent due to rising fuel prices and input costs. The highest ticket is VND2.95 million on the Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi route.
Do Ngoc Hai, head of the HCM City Department of Transport’s Road Management Board, said that the department would work with local stations on preparations to serve passengers during the Tet period.
The New Mien Dong Bus Station in HCM City is expected to receive around 58,000-63,000 passengers on February 6-8, up 30 percent on-year, according to Nguyen Lam Hai, Deputy Director of the station.
