Authorities of Tan Son Nhat International Airport have expressed concern about possible taxi shortages during the coming Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day holiday.

According to Dang Ngoc Cuong, director of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the airport would lack around 1,1 00 taxis during the holiday because of the surge in passenger numbers.

The airport has been forecasted to serve up to 42,000 or even 60,000 passengers per day. Roughly 15 percent of passengers to Tan Son Nhat International Airport need taxis from the airport.

The airport has 7,850 taxis to serve passengers at peak times, including 1,600 operated by Vinasun and 12,50 by Mai Linh Group.

Grab tops the app-based taxi firms servicing the airport with 2,500 cars.

To improve the situation, the airport authorities will continue working with taxi firms to meet passenger demand.

People have also been advised to book airport taxis in advance for their trip.

To ensure airport safety, unlicensed taxis and those overcharging passengers will be seriously punished.
