A taxi driver in Hanoi jumped from an overpass after crashing into seven motorbikes and injuring at least 10 people while driving at high speed on November 8.
Luu Anh Xuan, a witness, said that at 10.20pm, a taxi of the Vinataxi firm was being driven at high speed and overtook some vehicles. It sped up again on reaching the overpass at Thai Ha and Tay Son intersection and hit a motorbike running in opposite direction. The motorist was dragged along while the taxi crashed into six more motorbikes, before turning 90 degrees and hitting the barrier.
Le Quyen, another witness, said the taxi and another car were chasing each other before reaching the overpass.
When the situation turned chaotic, the taxi driver got out and jumped off the five-metre high overpass. Among the 10 people who were injured in the crash, one man died in hospital this morning.
The driver was injured in the jump and is under guard in hospital while police inquires continue.
