“Taiwan is among the countries and territories who have targeted Vietnam for potential students who could benefit from their universities,” said Professor Vu Minh Giang, who is also Deputy General Director of Vietnam National University – Hanoi (VNU-HN).
The fair staged at VNU-HN attracted the participation of 41 Taiwanese universities.
“We are very happy to participate in this event in order to promote cooperation in education between Vietnam and Taiwan. Vietnam and Taiwan share a number of similarities, not only social and economic, but also cultural similarities that will facilitate a better understanding and greater cooperation," said Huang Chih Peng, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi.
The fair was also staged in Ho Chi Minh City on November 21, and in Danang on November 24. Much of the focus was on scholarship programmes.
To date, as many as 88 Taiwanese universities have set up joint training programmes with 198 with Vietnamese universities and other partners.
Taiwan and Vietnam have signed a large number of memorandums of understanding on the educational front. One of the most important of these, signed in 2008, dictates that Vietnam will send 500 teachers to Taiwan for doctoral studies.
Currently, total of 3,469 Vietnamese students are studying in Taiwan. The number of Vietnamese post-graduates is larger than any other country's study-abroad programmes in Taiwan.
