Storm Ragasa nears East Sea, posing risks to Vietnam

Typhoon Ragasa is forecasted to enter the East Sea on September 23 with powerful intensity and could directly impact Vietnam’s mainland.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that at 4 am on September 19, Typhoon Mitag, the eighth storm in the East Sea so far this year, was packing winds of about 240 km east-southeast of Hong Kong (China).

The storm is likely to move northwest and make landfall in Guangdong Province (China) tonight and tomorrow, before weakening into a tropical depression.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a tropical depression over the Northwest Pacific has strengthened into a storm, internationally named Ragasa.

This storm is projected to hit Vietnam’s mainland around September 24-26, bringing strong winds and heavy rains to the northern region and central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue.

The northern region of Vietnam is expected to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with moderate to heavy rainfall on September 22-23. Widespread heavy rain is likely from September 25.

Localities from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh will experience widespread rain on September 22-23, with some areas likely to receive very heavy downpours. Widespread heavy rainfall is expected from September 25.
