Storm and tornado rip roofs off homes in Central Highlands

Heavy rain and a tornado have damaged dozens of homes in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, with strong winds tearing off roofs and toppling trees.

The storm struck Dak Po Commune in Gia Lai Province and surrounding areas at around 4 pm on April 15, according to local authorities.

Initial reports indicate that more than 10 houses in Village 4 had their roofs blown off, with sheets of metal roofing hurled onto nearby roads. Several roadside trees were also uprooted or broken, causing temporary traffic disruption.

Emergency services were deployed to assist residents in clearing debris and restoring traffic flow.

Bui Thi Thuong, chairwoman of the Dak Po Commune People’s Committee, said no casualties were reported. Authorities are assessing damage and preparing support measures to help affected families recover and stabilise their lives.

The storm also impacted neighbouring Lam Dong Province, where more than 10 houses in Dam Rong 2 Commune were damaged or collapsed.

Local officials in Dam Rong 2 are continuing damage assessments and planning assistance for residents to rebuild their homes.
