Stone quarrying pollutes Khanh Hoa expressway

Mining explosions at quarries along the Nha Trang-Cam Lam Expressway in the southern central province of Khanh Hoa have been blamed for causing environmental pollution and endangering drivers.

Mining explosions at quarries along the Nha Trang-Cam Lam Expressway in the southern central province of Khanh Hoa have been blamed for causing environmental pollution and endangering drivers.

Luong Thinh Long from Nha Trang-Cam Lam Expressway Ltd. Co. said since early this month, explosions had been carried out at two quarries near the Doc San Tunnel area. This created tens of metres tall dust clouds. The dust then spread to the expressway, affecting visibility.

The two quarries are owned by Cam Phuoc Dong and Cam Thinh Dong companies in Cam Ranh City.

The dust even covered the operational equipment of Doc San Tunnel such as cameras, lighting fixtures, ventilation fans, firefighting systems and communication systems. This would damage equipment and slow down rescue operations in traffic accidents.

Nguyen Tuan Anh, director of Nha Trang-Cam Lam Expressway Ltd. Co. said the firm had reported the problem to management agencies.
