Only 1% of Vietnamese companies use social networking sites, such as Facebook and Youtube, as a marketing tool, while the world average is 54%.

Although around 53% of Vietnamese internet users visit these types of websites, according to a survey by Vinalink Media JSC Company, Vietnamese companies seem to be missing out on the trend.
The French-Vietnamese Management Education Centre (CFVG) on June 10 held a conference on using social networks for marketing managers. Only around 0.4% use Facebook, 0.07% use Youtube, leaving just 0.2% who use others social networking sites.
At a conference held by the French-Vietnamese Management Education Center (CFVG), Associate Professor Marc Divine from IAE Paris cited results of a survey on 200 international companies, including IBM, L\'Oreal and Unilever, said that for globally, 54% among the interviewed firms used social networking websites for their marketing activities. According to them, the most popular corporate networking site is not Facebook, but LinkedIn, followed by Viadeo, Youtube Twitter and Dailymotion.
Ha Tuan, General Director of Vinalink, said that a few companies have used these sites to great advantage. A clip of Vietnam Dairy Products JS Company (Vinamilk) on Youtube attracted up to 10 million viewers, and Pond’s skin cream’s clip lured nearly 500,000 viewers on Zing.me for several weeks, he said.
Tuan added, “The proper use of social media will help increase business”. He also said that, before deciding buying products, around 35% of Vietnamese internet users have searched around on forums, and about 25% have checked friends’ forums.
According to Le Thuy Hanh, General Director of Digimarketing, most of companies transmit the same messages on different types of websites. Things that are considered acceptible on one may be considered spam on another. He said that companies should fit their message to different social networks in order to convey their message more clearly.
