The National Road 8A which leads to the Cau Treo International Border Gate in the central province of Ha Tinh has faced serious landslides.
Vo Truong Giang from the Department for Roads of Vietnam told local media on Monday evening that they were still trying to clear a huge amount of soil and rocks from the National Road 8A.
‘About 500 cubic metres of soil fell from surrounding mountains onto the road, blocking traffic’, Giang said. ‘The landslides occurred following heavy rains in the area [over] recent days’.

Giang said that the clearing work was facing some difficulties as the heavy rains were still continuing. Local authorities have put warnings and instructions at the two ends of the road.

Rainfall of 100–180 millimetres has been continuing in the central provinces from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa since Sunday night.
It is forecasted that the region will continue to experience downpours of between 100–200 millimetres from Wednesday to Friday.
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has asked local authorities in these provinces to take measures to prevent damage from flooding, especially flash floods and landslides.
