An EC225 helicopter departed from Vung Tau on Saturday evening, picked up a military medical team from Military Hospital 175 in HCM City, and flew to Truong Sa to retrieve the patients.

The two men, both working in Truong Sa, were identified as Tran Dinh Hung, 48, who suffered multiple severe injuries, and Vo Van Khao, 55, who was diagnosed with a rib abscess.

Authorities said both required urgent transfer to the mainland after their conditions exceeded treatment capacity on the island.

The helicopter landed at Military Hospital 175 at around 2.30 am on Sunday where the patients were admitted for further emergency care.
