On August 5, the Lam Dong People’s Committee asked the local Department of Finance and concerned agencies to review and appraise Sun Air JSC’s proposal.
The investor also recommended changing the investment model for the airport’s civil segment from a BOT contract to a business investment under the Law on Investment.

Construction of Phan Thiet Airport started in January 2015, including both military and civil components. While the military facilities are largely complete, the civil section, regarded as a key infrastructure project for Lam Dong Province, has fallen behind schedule and has been suspended for an extended period.
Phan Thiet was approved for development in 2013. Spanning 543 hectares, the project is located in Thien Nghiep, formerly a commune in Binh Thuan Province, now part of Mui Ne Ward, Lam Dong Province.
The government approved upgrading Phan Thiet Airport from class 4C to 4E, with a 3,050-metre runway and a passenger terminal capable of serving 2 million passengers per year.
At a cooperation signing ceremony with the former Binh Thuan authorities in March 2025, a representative of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines said that if the civil component is completed soon, the airline planned to launch flights to Phan Thiet from next year.
