On December 31, Thanh Hoa provincial police said that, following outreach efforts, two residents in Yen Tho Commune had voluntarily surrendered several rare animals classified under groups IB and IIB.
Quach Van An, 46 handed over a reticulated python weighing about 10kg. He said he had caught the snake while working in the hills and initially planned to keep it as a pet.

Earlier, Hoang Chi Cong, 41, also from Yen Tho commune, voluntarily handed over two pygmy slow lorises after finding them wandering into his garden.
After receiving the animals, Yen Tho commune police coordinated with Ben En national park to transfer them for care and eventual release into their natural habitat.
The reticulated python, scientifically known as Malayopython reticulatus, is listed under group IIB, while the pygmy slow loris, Nycticebus pygmaeus, belongs to group IB and is included in Vietnam’s red book.
Both species are on the list of wildlife strictly banned from exploitation and commercial use.
