The flock was recorded in the Khu Bap area of Song Tri Ward, according to the Hoanh Son forest protection unit, which identified the birds as Anastomus oscitans. The species is classified as rare and requires protection.

Local authorities have coordinated with rangers to monitor the birds and urged residents not to disturb, capture or harm them.
The storks, with long legs and black-and-white plumage, typically move in large flocks and glide overhead. Their sudden appearance has drawn residents, many gathering at a safe distance to watch and take photos.
Experts said that the presence of the flock suggests the local ecosystem is suitable for wild birds to inhabit and thrive.
According to authorities in Song Tri Ward, they would continue monitoring the situation and raise public awareness on wildlife protection to minimise human impact.
In Vietnam, Asian openbill storks are mainly found in the Mekong Delta region but may appear in other areas when habitat conditions are favourable.
