Quang Ngai proposes VND900-billion railway project

The central province of Quang Ngai has proposed the construction of a railway project with a total investment of VND900 billion (USD34.81 million).

Under the proposal submitted to the Ministry of Construction, Tri Binh-Dung Quat railway line will span 14.3 kilometres, connecting Tri Binh Station in Binh Nguyen Commune with Dung Quat Station in the Dung Quat Economic Zone, Binh Son District.

The project will be carried out in the 2026-2028 period.

By 2030, the volume of goods passing through Quang Ngai’s seaports is expected to reach 47-48 million tonnes annually, with up to 80 percent handled by Dung Quat Port. Of this total, approximately 2.7 million tonnes are projected to be transported by rail.

According to the Quang Ngai People’s Committee, the Dung Quat Economic Zone is undergoing rapid growth, driving a significant increase in freight transport demand. Currently, most goods are transported by road to the port, where they are then shipped to various destinations by sea.

Therefore, the construction of Tri Binh-Dung Quat railway project is considered essential. Once operational, the railway line will strengthen the connectivity of the North–South railway network to key freight hubs within the Dung Quat Economic Zone and Dung Quat seaport system.
