Resident Nguyen Van Tran suddenly saw a herd of white-cheeked gibbons at Len Chong Mountain in Truong Son Commune. He quickly used his phone to record video clips, capture images and inform the authorities.
After the clips on the gibbons were published, many other people in Truong Son said that they had seen such animals on Len Chong Mountain in the afternoon.

According to Nguyen Van Tao from Khe Cat Village, he had seen gibbons eating leaves or drinking water several times.
Hoang Trong Duc, chairman of Truong Son Commune, confirmed the appearance of the gibbons on Len Chong Mountain, but was not sure of their exact numbers.
Based on the locals’ observations, at least two groups of some 30 white-cheeked gibbons may live on Len Chong Mountain.
The commune has reported the case to Quang Ninh District’s forest management board for protection measures to be implemented.
The commune people’s committee has intensified communications activities to help raise people’s awareness about wild animal protection as well as ban the hunting, transportation and consumption of wild animal products.
Since the white-cheeked gibbon groups were found on Len Chong Mountain, this area has been strictly guarded. Forest rangers are stationed on duty 24/7 to coordinate with relevant authorities to protect and create a safe and healthy environment for the species.
