Party leader begins Moscow visit

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh left Hanoi on July 8, beginning an official visit to Russia at the invitation of President Dmitry Medvedev.

The two leaders will review 10-year cooperation within the framework of the Vietnam-Russia strategic partnership and discuss measures to speed up signed agreements.

The five-day visit takes place at a time when both countries are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. It aims to promote high-level political dialogues, as well as traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia.

The visit is also expected to strengthen relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the United Russia – the ruling political party – and the Communist Party of Russia.
