A funeral was held in Hanoi on September 10 for Vo Chi Cong (Vo Toan), former President of the State Council, Chairman of the National Defence Council and Deputy Prime Minister, who died on September 8 at the age of 99.
Present at the ceremony were Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam, and former Party General Secretaries Nong Duc Manh and Le Kha Phieu, as well as other senior officials from the Party, State, Government and National Assembly.
The national leaders expressed their condolences to the family of Vo Chi Cong, saying his death is a great loss to the Party, State and people.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, who is currently on a visit to Laos, sent a wreath to pay tribute to Vo Chi Cong.
The same day, ceremonies to commemorate the late leader also took place in Ho Chi Minh City and the central province of Quang Nam.
