The northern region of Vietnam has been forecasted to experience another strong cold spell during the New Year Holiday.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the cold spell will hit northern localities between January 1-3 with the lowest temperature of between 13-16 degrees centigrade. The temperature would range between 6-9 degrees centigrade in mountainous areas.

Hanoi to continue facing the cold weather


During this time, Hanoi would have rains in some areas with a temperature of 14-18 degrees centigrade.

Central localities from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa would have rain on January 1-2. Meanwhile, the Central Highlands and the southern region would witness strong winds and rain with the lowest temperature of between 17-20 degrees centigrade.

A strong cold front also affected northern localities on December 26-28, causing the temperature to fall to below zero degrees centigrade in several high mountainous areas, including Sapa. 

On Sunday afternoon, snow appeared on Mount Fansipan in the northern province of Lao Cai.
