According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, as of Tuesday morning temperatures dropped to between 9-12 degrees Celsius in lowland areas, and between 6-9 degrees in mountainous areas. Northern mountainous provinces are forecasted to have showers, thunderstorms, and even frost in the coming days.

In Hanoi, the temperature dropped to 9 degrees Celsius on January 24 before rising a bit towards the end of the week.

The mountainous town of Sapa has seen temperatures fall between 1-7 degrees Celsius on January 24.

The cold wave has also affected the central region with temperatures falling to 14-17 degrees in provinces from Quang Binh to Thua Thien Hue.

According to the centre, cold fronts are normally weaker than average in January, but the strong ones may still occur, mainly in the mountains and midlands of the north.
