Forecasters said the cold air is expected to affect the northeast from the night of April 28, before spreading to the north-central region and parts of the northwest and central regions.
According to the meteorological agency, under the influence of the cold air, northern Vietnam will see rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms from late April 28 to the morning of April 29, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain. On April 29, the north-central region is forecast to have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with localised heavy rain in some areas.
The agency warned that thunderstorms could bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong gusts.
For the central and southern regions, the agency said hot weather would persist on April 28-29, with maximum temperatures generally ranging from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius. The heat in southern Vietnam may last until around April 30.
