The Khanh Hoa Hydro-Meteorological Centre forecast continued heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms from the night of November 17 to late November 18, with rainfall of 100 to 220 millimetres and more than 250 millimetres in some northern and western areas.

The centre warned of flooding in low-lying and urban areas and the risk of landslides on steep or weak terrain.

According to the Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, heavy rain not only caused widespread flooding but also triggered landslides along several sections of National Highway 27C at Khanh Le Pass and Provincial Road 9 at Khanh Son Pass.

At Khanh Le Pass, rockslides killed six people and injured 16 on November 16. At Khanh Son Pass, landslides left one person dead, one injured and one missing.

Provincial construction authorities said the route through Khanh Le Pass, connecting Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong, remains blocked and will take considerable time to clear. Residents have been advised to take alternative routes.
