Nghe An road remains a mudbath

A 20-km stretch of road in Tan Ky District, Nghe An Province, has remained covered in red mud for the past six months.

A 20-km stretch of road in Tan Ky District, Nghe An Province, has remained covered in red mud for the past six months.

Locals in Tien Ky and Nghia Hanh communes have been left almost isolated, with the only road to the district centre blocked.

Locals say that six months ago a VND500-million (USD23,923) project was launched to repair the road, but to date, nothing has been done.

Vo Quang Phac, Vice Chairman of Nghia Hanh Commune, said residents in six hamlets in the commune could not drive motorbikes to the district centre. The only way for them to travel the road was by foot.

The project’s contractor is a company in Vinh City, and so far, just 10% of the project’s work has been completed.
