Vo Chi Cong Road which is 70km long cost nearly VND1.5trn. The project was approved by the prime minister in 2010.

A 42.5km section connecting Hoi An Town to Chu Lai Open Economic Zone was completed in the first phase and opened for traffic since 2016. The 26.5km section connecting Chu Lai Open Economic Zone to the intersection leading to Chu Lai Airport has an investment of near VND1.5bn from the government bonds and the provincial budget.

Along with the Highway 1A and Danang-Quang Ngai Expressway, the new road is hoped to become a key road to better connect the provinces and cities and boost economic development in the central coast.

Nguyen Thanh Tam, director of the management board of the traffic construction projects in Quang Nam, said this is one of their key projects. "It will play an important role in the development of local tourism and Chu Lai Economic Zone and Quang Nam Province in general. It will also help ease the traffic density on Highway 1A," he said.

Vo Chi Cong Road is expected to change the landscape as investors promised huge investment in ports, airports and other infrastructure projects.

Le Tri Thanh, chairman of Quang Nam People's Committee, said that the eastern area of Quang Nam has great potential and the new road will further open more opportunities.

The road will be further completed and expanded to Chu Lai Airport.
