Vietnam’s General Department of Customs has just reported that nearly 5,000 mobile phones of various brands and 2,550 pairs of children’s shoes were recently confiscated while being smuggled into the country through multiple border crossings.
In Tay Ninh Province, customs officers at the Moc Bai International Border Gate inspected a transit shipment from a local company and found 88 suspected used mobile phones with no declared origin. The company was fined VND 33.3 million (approximately USD 1,330), and all goods were confiscated.
At the Mong Cai International Border Gate in Quang Ninh Province, customs authorities examined a shipment declared as “100 per cent new fishing nets from China.” However, an inspection revealed 2,540 suspected used mobile phones and 2,550 pairs of children’s shoes believed to be counterfeit Louis Vuitton and Adidas products.
In another case at the same border gate, customs officers checked a shipment declared as “100 per cent new synthetic fabric clothing from China” and discovered 2,360 suspected used mobile phones branded iPhone, Oppo, and Honor.
According to the General Department of Customs, all the cases are under further investigation and will be handled in accordance with Vietnamese law.
